Pretty Fab

For those of you that follow me on social media, you know I’m spending this semester in Los Angeles. Life has been pretty amazing here. My school has a “study abroad” program in Los Angeles where we intern and take classes. It’s a great way to learn about the LA landscape and find your fit in the entertainment and/or fashion industry. One of my internships is at Fabletics, which is an athletic apparel brand cofounded by Kate Hudson.

Kate recently released her lifestyle book, Pretty Happy. Let me tell you, although I’ve been working events around the book release all week, I finally sat down to read it today, and it is so amazing. Kate is such a genuine, real and nice person, and her personality shines through the pages on the book. I highly recommend! Even just a few pages in, I already felt inspired. IMG_5760

Yesterday, I worked a book signing with Kate at the Fabletics store in Woodland Hills. It was so fun to hear from her fans, meet the Fabletics customers, and obviously chat with Kate!

Anything But Boring

I’ve been a big fan of black and white lately, and I like the challenge of mixing different patterns and textures to create an interesting and dynamic look. I believe in the quote, “black is anything but boring.” By adding the right pieces, you can instantly elevate an outfit to become a standout look. In my case, I made a simple blouse more interesting by twisting the front instead of buttoning it straight down, and I had fun with the accessories.

Pink Lady

Although I’m a very girly person, that doesn’t always reflect in my personal style. I often don’t wear a ton of color (I love black and white…together and separately). In fact, my Big said that she was surprised to find out my favorite color is pink because I’d always be wearing something “edgy” (in her Lilly Pulitzer-obsessed world, that meant all black).

Anyways, here’s me attempting color. I’m obsessed with this pink and white striped tee from J.Crew. It’s super soft and the shade of pink is so feminine and unlike anything in my closet. When the last one we had in store just happened to be in my size, I took it as a sign. To balance out the femininity and easiness of the tee shirt, I added boyfriend jeans and a blazer for a more structured and interesting silhouette. I topped (or bottommed?) it off with this gorgeous silver heels from my all-time favorite Project Runway designer, Christian Siriano. While the look is definitely a little out of my comfort zone, I think I’m pretty happy with the end product.

Simple Silhouettes

A change in season usually means a light wardrobe refresh is necessary. Everyone picks up a few pieces that are hot at the moment, as well as maybe stock up on some classics.

In my case, however, I noticed that all of my spring and summer attire was in need of a major overhaul. Imagine opening your closet and seeing only high-rise cutoffs, chiffon tank tops, few dresses — all of which only seemed to come in shades of navy, white, and grey, and was smocked in seagull and moose logos (good times working as a Hollister model).

So in my search for new pieces, I’ve noticed myself reaching for more simple silhouettes with unexpected details (ie., the J.Crew jeans). This Banana Republic top is probably one of my favorite pieces this season because its structured shape is so flattering, and the eyelets add a very feminine touch.

Spring Break Fashion: Beach Vibes

I’ve been enjoying my time under the warm sun these past few days, and clearly, my most recent wardrobe choices reflect it. While I did pack four pairs of shoes with me for this trip, I haven’t worn much else other than my Rainbow flip flops. I bought them over five years ago and they’re still going strong! (Except in these pictures, where they’re on my hands more often than my feet…couldn’t resist running into the water!)

Citron + Snow

March is officially here which means spring is on its way! …Unfortunately, that’s not the case for New England. After a long month that dumped 100 inches of snow and long days of moping over the cold, I wanted to simulate a little sunshine. This bright citron skirt was the perfect pick me up on a gloomy, snowy day. I’m normally not a huge fan of bright colors, but I love the hue of this skirt, the fit is perfect, and I snagged it on sale!

Back with the Crew

Working in retail is a challenge, but it’s also one of the most rewarding experiences. Knowing that you can make someone’s day with a simple styling session or amazing customer service, retail really taught me not only the value of a dollar, but more importantly, the value of small acts of kindness. Not to mention, my first retail job gave me some of my best friends.

Almost one year ago, I started working at J.Crew (note: none of my opinions represent those of the company, and the company does not give me any compensation to feature their products). In celebration of my one-year work anniversary (Woohoo, first full year at the same job! I’m becoming a grown-up), here’s some of my favorite J. Crew-inspired looks.

This necklace has to be one of my favorite statement necklaces. Not only does it go with everything I wear, but it was also a gift from my (sorority) Big Sister, Emilie. She gave it to me during big little week on the same day that I got the job offer from J.Crew.

I wear a lot of black and white, which made me fall in love with this black and white scarf. It’s made of merino wool so it keeps me warm enough, but it was woven in a way that makes it lightweight enough for me to wear during work. I am also obsessed with these black pixie pants. The high rise and super stretch makes them so flattering, but the super stretch also makes them oh-so comfy.

This quilted puffer jacket is one of my favorite purchases from my time at J.Crew. It may have been a little bit of an impulse buy (I may or may not have texted my parents after buying it saying, “Don’t ask. It was an emergency” in case they checked my bank statement later that afternoon), but I’m so glad I bought it. The quilts make it the perfect transition piece from fall to winter.
